This piece was to show the love and community that can come out of tragedies. One of the earlies inspiration images that was shared with me was of the Wales Window for Alabama. This in combination with the sound design of a jazz club was a pivot point for the lighting design. I wanted to infuse the space with the feel and mystique of a jazz club but also the richness and symbolism from the history of this stained glass. I ended up adding projection design to this piece to help tie all the threads together through lighting. To marry the projections and lighting together and have the performers feel like they were dancing underneath a stained glass window. Using a combination of floor projections, cyc projections, and cyc lights as well. Mirroring the projections from the cyc onto the dancers while also using cyc lights to light up the cyc and give the media content the feeling of light spilling through the window.
